Come enjoy the sunny side of life! The mild climate and many hours of sunshine radiate a southern atmosphere in the old town. Constructed 700 years ago, the old town enchants you with its romantic Renaissance buildings, idyllic alleys, arcade courts and friendly cafés.
There is no written record of Radkersburg’s founding. It is first mentioned in the records as “Rakerspurch” in 1182. Before the town even received the name Radkersburg, it was among the leading trade routes in Styria. It was considered a "market" in the year 1265. Trades have a long tradition here. Blacksmiths in particular have been held in high regard for centuries. Radkersburg was home to coopers as well. The cooper’s guild was found in the Bindergasse.
The old structures are being carefully maintained to this day. In 1978 the town was awarded the European gold medal for the protection and preservation of historical monuments.
Due to its proximity to the countries of Slovenia, Hungary and Croatia, the Bad Radkersburg region is in the centre of a quadripoint: an ideal base for day trip to the wine growing regions of the neighbouring countries or the Slovenian capital of Marburg.
On the Hauptplatz in Bad Radkersburg, you will find the town’s emblem, the Rathausturm. The upper section was destroyed by fire and rebuilt in 1806. You will also find the Mariensäule as a reminder of the plague on the Hauptplatz.
There are two healing water springs in the town. The thermal spring emerges from the bowels of the earth at a temperature of up to 80° C. At the Parktherme spa, the languorously warm thermal water loosens tense muscles and unfolds a beneficial effect on the body, mind and spirit. The mineral water spring – Stadtquelle Bad Radkersburg – has been considered the spring with the highest magnesium content in Austria since 1927. The water is available from retailers under the “Long Life” brand.
Bad Radkersburg has a long tradition as a bicycling El Dorado. Limitless cycling is available on the many kilometres of the bicycle trail network and varied tours all the way to the Slovenian and Hungarian neighbours – for recreational cyclists, bicycle racers and families – for anyone seeking a challenge. A bicycle tour through the landscape of the Mur river floodplains or the gently rolling hills – the possibilities offered by the bicycle trails with excellent signage are virtually endless. The bicycle season begins earlier here than elsewhere. Every year the outdoor season kicks off with the "ANRADELN" bicycle season opening in April. The grand 3-stage Tour de Mur from Lungau to Bad Radkersburg is held at the end of May/beginning of June with the subsequent town festival on the Hauptplatz in Bad Radkersburg.
Numerous cultural events and festivals are held on the Hauptplatz today. In summer the old town is transformed into a unique shopping scenery. "Flanieren & RAdieren" takes place every Friday in the summer. Shops and cafés are open for extended hours and things are happening on the street.
To make sure the kids don’t get bored during your holiday or vacation, you can take part in a fast-paced puzzle rally by bicycle around Bad Radkersburg. The Kids Coach at the Parktherme spa provides all kinds of fun and action during the summer months.
Cosy inns and rustic wine bars pamper you with culinary delights, serving regional delicacies with pumpkin and horseradish, runner beans, grapes and more. The wine of the Bad Radkersburg region is another great pleasure. Aside from the typical white and red wine varieties, the Klöcher Traminer and TAU wine are the region’s special highlights. The Kürbisfest on the Frauenplatz in Bad Radkersburg is an autumnal culinary festival. In the winter, the Advent village on the Hauptplatz is sure to put you in the mood for Christmas.
