Highly enjoyable – the pearl of southern Styria’s wine country
Embedded in a landscape of gentle hills and surrounded by vineyards, orchards and extensive mixed forests, you will find the market town of Klöch.
Today’s community of Klöch looks back on an eventful history. A knighthood full of joie de vivre once occupied the towering castle of "Klech". Wine and provisions for delicious gluttony were taken from the surrounding farmers and festivals were celebrated to one’s heart desire. Over one hundred years ago, it was discovered that the good air of Klöch is beneficial for the body, mind and spirit. Cold water cures fed by the Klausenbach brook brought outstanding healing results. This "natural health resort" was closed when World War I broke out. Today the "Kurhaus" still stands in an outdoor dining area in the midst of Klöch. The "Kursalon" is now a residential house.
Winegrowers and visitors to the region look forward all year to the traditional Pressfest wine festival in Klöch.
The pearl of southern Styria’s wine country owes its name to the premium grapes that grow in Klöch and are processed into fine wines. Volcanoes erupted in Klöch many millions of years ago. They are the source of today’s fertile, mineral-rich soil. The red earth defines the Klöch landscape to this day. This red-brown earth is very rich in minerals, which benefits the Klöcher Traminer – the wine with the scent of the rose. Aside from the Klöcher Traminer, typical white and red wine varieties also thrive in the vineyards of Klöch. The market town of Klöch is among the most important wine-growing locations in the Styrian thermal spring region.
